It's really too bad you didn't put this in the unmoderated section.  There was great potential in renaming the thread.

When I told people I could see satellites passing overhead at night without optics in high school, they didn't believe me.  I even told them it looks like the body is rotating and reflects the Sun's light from dim to bright and back again.  Apparently, I was right.  They're called "Iridium Flares" and their estimated (very exact I might add) viewing times can be found here:

http://www.heavens-above.com

Register (I ain't got no junk-mail yet) and set your viewing site.  It has a terrific star map, ISS tracking, etc., as well as the Iridium Flare viewings.  The best part is it's FREE!  And y'all know I'm really, really cheap.

For example, in Eureka Springs tonight at 10:44pm you can see Iridium 15 at 65 degrees (ENE) at 32 degrees altitude.  It will flare from -2 magnitude to yoiks magnitude .  It looks like it will be a quick one.

Later,

Dennis

Okay, Dennis, who the hell do you think you are, trying to pass yourself off as cheaper than me?!

Okay, all you Sagitarians, let's hear it for our little galaxy!

And, Maags, Ouroborus is here at my house and doing well . . . lives in our camper-trailer.

Here's a good ISS viewing on 8/2/07, passing directly over Eureka Springs at 5:09:

Date Mag  Starts Max. Altitude  Ends
Time Alt.  Az.  Time Alt.  Az.  Time Alt.  Az.

02 Aug -2.5 05:06:46 10 NW  05:09:36 87 N  05:12:28 10 SE

Cheap, cheap, cheap...   Cheesy
